Tax and finance expert upholding Alloy Silverstein’s values and commitment to client service since 1960.

After receiving his degree from Temple University, Mr. Shapiro earned certification in Pennsylvania and New Jersey and joined Marvin Alloy and Raymond Silverstein in 1960.

Mr. Shapiro was one of the first CPAs nationwide to be certified as a Personal Financial Specialist (his certification is #223). He earned that certification as a Personal Financial Specialist (PFS), a prestigious and exclusive distinction shared now by approximately 5,000 CPAs. Mr. Shapiro has extensive experience handling the particular interests of professional athletes, physicians, dentists, attorneys, and other professionals. He has lectured before the American Society of Appraisers and others on real estate investment and the tax implications thereof. Mr. Shapiro has also been a frequent guest professor at Rutgers University, teaching courses such as Advanced Accounting and Mergers and Acquisitions.

In addition to his financial work with individuals and corporations, Mr. Shapiro has also worked with financial institutions. He recently relinquished his membership on the Board of Directors for Navient, having completed a 20-year term limit. Navient is the nation’s leading loan management, servicing, and asset recovery company. Steve also played an integral role in the creation of Navient, which was the successor to Sallie Mae. During his tenure, he had served as Vice Chairman of the Nominating Committee, Director Representative to the Sallie Mae PAC, Chairman of the Operating Committee as well as the Strategic Planning Committee, and he has served on the Executive Committee and Compensation Committee of Sallie Mae. In Mr. Shapiro’s final year at Navient, new Board members were brought on and the company was recognized by Standard & Poor as the leader in Board gender parity.

Mr. Shapiro also served on the Board of Directors of MetLife Bank, a wholly owned subsidiary of Metropolitan Life Insurance Company, and was Chairman of the Trust Committee and the Audit Committee. He has also been on the Board of the Casino Reinvestment Development Authority (CRDA) and was appointed Treasurer of that Board. He has also served as a director on the Boards of Carnegie Bank, N.A., The Bank, First Peoples Bank of New Jersey, Fidelity Bank of New Jersey, Howard Federal Savings and Loan Association, and Jefferson Bank of New Jersey, having served as Vice Chairman of that Board.

Mr. Shapiro is a member of the Executive Advisory Council of Rutgers University and is a Federal Key Person of the American Institute of CPAs. He has served on the N.J.
