Ransomware: A Continuing Threat for Small Businesses

Ransomware remains one of the most damaging cybersecurity threats facing small businesses.

Today’s attacks are sophisticated. Many use double extortion, stealing data before encrypting systems and threatening to release it if payment is not made.

To reduce risk:

  • Train employees to recognize and report suspicious messages.
  • Require multi-factor authentication for email, cloud platforms, remote access, and administrative systems.
  • Maintain tested backups, including immutable or air-gapped copies.
  • Keep software patched and systems monitored.
  • Create and practice an incident response plan.

As ransomware continues to evolve, preparation remains your best defense.
