New Jersey Launches New Tax Filing Portal: What Business Owners and Tax Preparers Need to Know

As of May 14, 2025, the New Jersey Division of Taxation has rolled out the first phase of its modernized tax-filing system, giving business owners and tax professionals new tools to manage filings more efficiently through the NJ Tax Portal.

This upgrade is designed to streamline the way businesses file returns, make payments, and access account information—all in one place. As of April 26, 2025, the current online filing and payment systems for Phase 1 taxes is unavailable. While no returns or payments can be processed, you can still view account information.

With the new NJ Tax Portal, business owners and tax preparers can begin setting up their profiles to access key features like:

  • Filing assistance

  • Payment history

  • Secure document storage

  • Account management tools

Returns and payments due in May for Phase 1 taxes will receive a 30-day automatic extension. For example: If your return is due on May 20, 2025, you now have until June 20, 2025 to file and pay—without penalty or interest.

For Business Owners: Set Up Your Administrator Profile

Your Administrator Profile is your gateway to securely managing tax filings and payments, viewing your account history, and assigning Delegate access to your tax preparer. To access the NJ Tax Portal, business owners will need:

  • Your Taxpayer ID

  • Line 1 from a recently filed return

  • Your four-digit PIN (included in your Welcome Letter)

If you don’t have your PIN, you can request one through the Business Tax/NJ Tax Portal PIN Request page.

For Tax Preparers and Other Professionals: Set Up Your Delegate Profile

If you’re a tax preparer or advisor working with New Jersey businesses, you’ll need to log in to the NJ Tax Portal and create your Delegate Profile and share your email address and Registration Confirmation Number with the business owner. As a Delegate, you’ll be able to:

  • Submit filings on their behalf

  • Manage accounts efficiently

  • Access real-time filing and payment info directly from the portal

While using the NJ Tax Portal is not mandatory, it offers several benefits including centralized access to all tax records, secure and efficient filings, easier communication with the Division of Taxation, and the ability to request support directly from within the portal.
