Managing shareholder and officer of the Alloy Silverstein CPA firm, Ren received his bachelor’s degree from Rutgers University. He is certified in New Jersey and Pennsylvania and is a member of the American Institute of CPAs, including the Tax, Information Technology, and Personal Financial Planning Divisions.

With over 40 years of accounting, tax, and advisory experience to his name, Ren has earned certification as a Personal Financial Specialist (PFS), a prestigious and exclusive distinction shared by approximately 5,000 CPAs nationwide. He has also achieved designation as a Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA), recognizing his ability to provide financial and non-financial guidance to businesses on performance, growth, and in making critical business decisions based on his extensive experience in public accounting, financial and management accounting, consulting, and the management and operations of the firm.

In his capacity as shareholder, he has worked predominately with law firms, real estate developers and operators, computer consulting businesses, health care professionals, manufacturing companies, retail and wholesale organizations, and professional athletes. In addition to providing a full range of public accounting services to numerous individuals and business entities, responsibilities include management duties as managing shareholder of the firm, and supervising the firm’s services in the areas of mergers and acquisitions, reorganizations, bankruptcy, insolvency, medical consulting, ElderCare, client accounting services, and financial advisory services.

In addition to the accounting firm, Ren serves as director of our payroll affiliate, Abacus Payroll, Inc., and director of our wealth management affiliate, Alloy Silverstein Financial Services, Inc. In this capacity, he has passed the FINRA Series 7 and 66 exams and may offer securities through Avantax Investment ServicesSM, Member FINRA, SIPC. Ren is licensed to sell Life and Health Insurance.

Ren is also a member of the Risk Management Association, Pennsylvania Institute of CPAs and the New Jersey Society of CPAs for which he served as an officer and director of the Southwest Chapter, and was appointed to several state committees including the Committee to Confer with Bench and Bar, the Committee for Cooperation with Bankers and other Credit Grantors. On the local level, he has chaired the Committee for Cooperation with Bankers and other Credit Grantors.

In addition to his financial and tax work with individuals and corporations, Mr. Cicalese has lectured before physicians at Allegheny University/Hahnemann Division, Cooper, Temple and Thomas Jefferson University Hospitals, and the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania; students at Rutgers, Rider, and Rowan Universities, and the American Society of Appraisers. He has made presentations for Rutgers University’s Regional Small Business Development Center and New Jersey Institute of Technology’s Enterprise Development Center. Key topics included taxes, forensic accounting, business valuation, record keeping, and practice management techniques with respect to medical practices. He has testified in legal proceedings in Salem County, New Jersey and has qualified and served as reviewer and team captain for the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants’ Quality Review Program.

Ren is currently serving on the Dean’s Executive Advisory Council of Rutgers University and is a member of the AICPA Practice Advisory Group for 2019-2021. Ren led the accounting firm’s involvement in INPACT Americas, an international alliance of independent accounting firms and has held various leadership positions. He was appointed President of INPACT Americas for two terms from 2012-2015 and also appointed the Chair of the Global Board for 2016. From 2009-2016, he concurrently served as a member of their North American Board of Directors and on the Global Board of Directors.

 

Getting to Know Ren

Ren has many interests outside the firm. He spends a lot of time on the golf course, both for pleasure and as a bystander at PGA and LPGA Tour events. He enjoys going on vacation, especially touring Italy or traveling throughout the fifty states. As a former college baseball player, Ren is an avid sports fan and has a soft spot in his heart for the Phillies. Ren spends a lot of time at the gym and track and enjoys going to the movies and spending time with his family.
