The IRS has begun disbursing the Economic Income Payments (or Recovery Rebate checks) this week. No action is needed by taxpayers who filed tax returns in 2018 and 2019 or by most seniors and retirees.
However, some taxpayers and non-filers require an extra step before they can successfully receive their payments.

The IRS is relying on taxpayers’ 2019 tax returns (or 2018 if 2019 is not yet filed) for qualification and payment details. If your banking or direct deposit information has changed since then, use this link to alert the IRS of your updated information. Note, you may need your 2019 or 2018 tax return to proceed. You can also use this link to check payment status.
Click the blue “Get My Payment” button for next steps.
*Note, as it just went live this morning, there may be a longer than usual wait due to high demand.
If you were previously not required to file a 2019 tax return or had gross income that did not exceed $12,200 ($24,400 for married couples), the IRS needs more information to determine your eligibility, payment amount, and payment details. If you were a non-filer, read our online article for more information, including what documents you will need to provide.
Click the blue “Non-Filers: Enter Payment Info Here” button for next steps.
Make sure you ONLY access these links by clicking through IRS.gov. Scammers and identity thieves have been trying to use these stimulus checks as a way to gain your sensitive personal information, so make sure you double check the secure URL and proceed cautiously. The IRS and Treasury will NOT call, text, or mail postcards to you, so do not provide this information to an unverified source.
