Externship Day

A one-day inside look at the CPA profession for accounting majors.

Externship Day

Once a year Alloy Silverstein offers accounting majors from local colleges and universities a unique experience: a one-day inside look at the CPA profession.

Next Externship Day

Our next Externship Day will take place January 11, 2024.  This will be a 2-3 hour session in which you will hear resume and interview tips from our Managing Shareholder, a day in the life from accountants at different staff levels, and our team members will discuss what to expect when it comes to the CPA exam, the public accounting career, internships, and growing in the Alloy Silverstein company.

Alloy Silverstein welcomes accounting, finance, and business majors from all four levels of undergrad – freshman, sophomore, junior, and senior – to apply for our annual Externship Day. If you’re pursuing your bachelor’s degree in accounting, and don’t know what career options are available for you, OR if you already know public accounting is the route for you, Externship Day gives you a behind the scenes look at what you can expect in a real, regional firm. There are some things books just can’t teach you!

Frequently Asked Questions

  • How do I get invited to Externship Day?
    • If you’ve found this webpage and you’re in the Philadelphia region, go ahead and apply! Each fall, we reach out to many local colleges and universities and ask the career department, business school dean, accounting department chair, school accounting society or accounting professors to forward the information to their students. You can also like us on Facebook or follow us on LinkedIn and Twitter for upcoming Externship Day announcements.

  • Is this like a shadow program?
    • Unfortunately no – due to client confidentiality we cannot allow you to shadow our CPAs or check out any real client work. The purpose of Externship Day is to get all the information possible on how to succeed on an interview, tips on passing the CPA exam, and how to be the best possible entry level accountant as you begin your professional career. Our speakers have been in your shoes before, and we want to share what we wish someone else told us in the beginning of our accounting careers.

  • Who should apply?
    • Freshman, sophomore, junior, and senior accounting, finance, or business majors who live a drivable distance to our Cherry Hill office should consider submitting an application.

  • Why do I have to apply?
    • Since we host Externship Day in our own conference rooms (so you can tour an actual office atmosphere and have as much face time with as many professionals as possible), we are limited to accepting only 20 students for each Externship Day session.

Each year we typically receive more applicants than we can accomodate, so the application process helps us welcome in the best of the best. We wish we could take you all!
